Adrenocorticotropic hormone – ACTH

Adrenocorticotropic hormone is also known as ACTH or corticotrophin.
It is secreted by the pituitary gland at the base of the brain and is responsible for the stimulation of the cortex (outer layer) of the adrenal glands.
Adrenocorticotropic hormone causes the adrenal cortex to produce the hormones Cortisol, corticosterone, and cortisone.
Natural or synthetic preparations of the adrenocorticotropic hormone have been used to treat various disorders, such as asthma, multiple sclerosis, and Bells palsy.
Adrenocorticotropic hormone is also used in a test of adrenal gland function. for details click below
